Virginia Living Magazine has done a beautiful spread on my photography series, Endangered Species: Watermen of the Chesapeake. The feature is in the May/June issue which will be in newsstand’s and mailbox’s any day now. I would like to show a sneak peak here. I was impressed with the design job done by Sonda Andersson Pappan, Art Director for Virginia Living Magazine. Below is the opening spread. Thanks Sonda !

Today I had some most interesting folks visit me in my studio. I was photographing some music and dance types for The Virginia Arts Festival, who are part of The International Tatoo, which is starting today here in Norfolk. Not everyday I have someone from Tonga, Nepal or a bagpipe player in here! The person whose photo I want to share today is named Ohikoni Takeifango. He is a Warrant Officer First Class and is with the Tonga Defence Services Royal Corps of Musicians. A most engaging fellow I must say ! More to come later.

Would like to share a couple more images from the shoot we did in Roanoke, Virginia of the Star City Roller Girls. These ladies are so interesting. One of them is a Ph.D, ! What a diverse group they are. Did I say they were interesting ? And not just they way they look either !

On Friday, April 15th, I was in Roanoke, Virginia for the opening of my exhibition titled, Dominion Derby Girls, which was held at the fantastic O. Winston Link Museum. This is portrait work done a while back of the roller girl team based in Virginia Beach, Va. As part of the opening I suggested we invite the Roanoke team and that I do portraits of them also. So on Friday afternoon, my wife Marshall and I set up my studio in the lobby of the O. Winston Link Museum and photographed those ladies that were in attendance from The Star City Roller Girls. What a fun, great group of ladies they are. I had a blast photographing them.
Below are the first two images I have had a chance to work on. If you ever have the chance I would highly recommend you visit the O. Winston Link Museum. The folks in Roanoke have done a remarkable job in every facet.

Last week we had a fun shoot at a school on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Always fun working with kids since you are never sure what will happen next! I like working with available light too since you can work fast and concentrate on the action. And with kids what you see now can change fast.
I put this sample sheet together to show my client and thought I would show it here too.

Available light photography on location

Yesterday my brother in law Shep was working on replacing some wood beams on an old porch. He needed to trim a tiny bit off one of end of one of the beams. When we held it up to the light we saw this very cool pattern. It looks like a dragon face or perhaps some warrior painted up for battle from the jungle.
Put it on my old light box first thing this morning and made some exposures. Nature is so unpredictable and awesome!
